What are anthocyanins?

Anthocyanins belong to the bioactive family of compounds called flavonoids and are responsible for the red, purple, and blue colors of many fruits, vegetables, cereal grains, and flowers. These compounds are found in high amounts in blackcurrants, raspberries, aubergines, blood orange juice and blueberries.
